This exhibition was to be held at the Helensburgh Art Hub in Helensburgh, on the west coast of Scotland during the month of April 2020. There would have been an opening reception as well as an artist talk given by me towards the middle of the exhibition. I was very much looking forward to this solo exhibition and especially the art talk but COVID-19 had other plans. As in most places our efforts have turned to online representation of work and life. Regardless of what is happening in the world, I wanted the works to still be seen together again, even if only digitally for viewers to enjoy and explore. A moment of peace and perhaps spacious meditation, the work supports us and carries us along. Since I was unable to give my art talk I created this short podcast on the work as a whole. A brief reflection of my time creating these pieces and what I was learning from the work and trying to express at the moment.

Listen to "Megan Chapman: The Space Between Exhibition Art Talk" on Spreaker.

I hope you feel like you have had some sort of experience or that you have left your current surroundings for a moment to be enveloped by the white, the space, the silence, the dark dramatic marks, and calm colours as we explore what is enough to make a painting and what is enough to make a life. If these paintings could sing a song of their own, they might sound like this. You might enjoy listening to this album while you have another look.

This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of my friend and patron, David Ritchie.

Thank you. You are missed and will not be forgotten.

Special thanks to the Helensburgh Art Hub for this exhibition opportunity and for all they do for their local community to inspire and serve.

    1. Thank you dear 'unknown' for taking some to view the work and have a listen (I always forget about my accent). ;) I appreciate you leaving me a comment too. Of course, I wish everyone could see these works in the flesh but this is the next best thing. Take care. xx

  2. Hi, Megan. It's wonderful to see all these in one place, in spite of the global emergency. Excellent work! Also, I love Olafur Arnalds, too. Please be well! Bob Rhodes, Lancaster PA

    1. Thanks so much for enjoying the pieces all together. It means so much to me that folks will take the time especially with everything that is going on. Concentration seems in short supply. Thanks for your kind comments about the work. I was fortunate to see Olafur Arnalds not that long ago here in Edinburgh - epic. This album is perfection. Take good care, Bob.

  3. Stunning work Megan - I’m blown away. What draws me to your work is your sense of calm space with the drama of your colours and marks. I find it very affecting. Thanks for the music link too!

    1. Hi Sean, Oh, thank you so much for letting me know that. Your father was a very generous person and really championed my work. I will never forget him. As this show was to be held in Helensburgh, he was excited that it was going to be close enough that he hoped to attend. I was really looking forward to that too of course. It only seemed fitting to dedicate this exhibition to him and his memory. I am glad you were able to see the work too and thanks again for your kind comment. Take good care of yourself and please give my love to your family.
