Selections from the distillation

I am excited to share my latest series of paintings with you all. Out of the 180 pieces from January's distillation process, I have selected these 19 works on paper to represent the completed series. The following selections will be available soon as a series of signed, limited edition prints. I am currently finalizing the reproduction details and will let you know more about their availability soon. Until then, I hope you will enjoy my latest work.

  1. I was so fortunate to see the Women of Abstract Expressionism exhibit at the Denver Art Museum last summer, and fortunate to purchase the catalogue from this incredible exhibit of all the fabulous women abstractionists who just went missing in all the years critics and curators have written and exhibited abstract expressionism. So I got my catalogue out this morning to see the photos of these artists in their studios ( if there were any). So, on balance, I think Stewart did a great job, the only thing missing was a cigarette and maybe you in a mermaid pose atop one of your paintings on the floor! Haha...The selected prints form the DIstillation Process are very revealing Megan. I watched the whole process with fascination, as you stripped away all the unnecessary noise and returned to the line, your signature shape ( which I know you have questioned why you are so attracted to that shape) which I always viewed as a metaphor for union of life, continuous, but complete and when they overlap there is the reaching out and finding our commonality-I'm digressing. Then the use of those minimal but powerful colors, the black, white and ochre. What an amazing process, just that sense of the truth when all the layers were peeled away to the core of what you know. I hope you inspire other artists to follow their own process, to be reminded that what one has become should occasionally be challenged - remove the ego , face a little fear and return to where it all started. I look forward to seeng the work that will come this cleansing.

    1. Jeanne,

Thank you so much for this beautiful, thoughtful comment. I know what you mean about those photos! Yes, I just need a drink and a smoke and I was tempted to sit on my work but really, what the hell!? I am so glad you got to see that exhibition. I was just gifted the large book of the show and I love that it exists and that now there is a record and a resurgence and renewed discovery. So much to be inspired by there as well as validation. Thank you for knowing my marks and motivations and for watching it all evolve and then turn back on it's self over the years. It is wonderful to have someone that understands my process (sometimes better than me!) We will see what comes next!
