To feel and remember

perceptibility
I feel like an invisible weight is pressing on me. Why write a studio blog when the world is so uncomfortable and rough and when everything feels fraught? We watch ourselves do our jobs, our chores, our errands, our coffee meetups and our food shopping. As sorrow builds up in our hearts and threatens to drown us, somehow we keep moving.

We clear or clip the hurdles as the minutes pass, and the sky changes from light to dark. I paint and draw pictures to feel and remember.

patch
I am grateful for the moments of shared humanity and I hate all the sorrow and fear we are living under. Another day, another news cycle, another heartbreak; yet we keep moving, we keep fighting, and somehow we keep loving.

Please take care of your kind heart. We need you and the gifts you bring.
X.

This is where all the stories start

10 years ago this week I arrived in Scotland to make it my home. There is so much I want to say about it, that it overwhelms me. So this week, I will just share some new art and say thank you to the trees, the flowers, the gardens, the birds, the paths, the wind, the hills, the sea, the music, the art, the cobblestones and old buildings and to all people who have loved, cared for, and supported me during this time. Those that are still here and those that are somewhere else. Thank you also to my dearest, Theo.

Thank you.

10 years can be celebrated this week, next week, and even all year.
I love you, Scotland and I celebrate you every damn day.

More soon. Keep Fighting.

My brushes are clean

I gave my brushes a good bath (the pictures above are after the bath). I did some technical things relating to my art career. I went out and saw some good art around town. I said no to an opportunity. Another opportunity ended and another showed up. I listened to music and I talked to good people. I worked and I sang and I took a risk.

It's the start of August.

Already.

And my brushes are clean.

The dark psychic void

I am sitting across the room looking at a painting I started. It's a bit too literal for my liking just now. I am in danger of overworking yet another piece but that is okay. Today I triumphed anyway. I painted. Yesterday I taped the paper to the wall and that was my other triumph of the week. Just take the step. Put the paper in place. Get the palette together. Make a mark. Repeat. Take a risk. Repeat. Listen to the music, let it take you to that place. The dark psychic void. Listen carefully to the paint, the mark, the paper. Don't force it. Leave this world and wade into the deep, they are waiting for you.

Each time you do this, there is a reward and a remembrance.

The story continues...

If you stopped by here last week you will recall that I shared the first eight paintings of a new series. This week, I am sharing five more new works in that same series. I am especially excited by these works, my palms were actually sweating as I was organising the photos of the painting. I might have even hollered! This is a rare and special feeling and I aim to hold on to it for a while. Without further ado here are the newest paintings from my latest series, "This is how we tell the story..."
